FC Barcelona has officially confirmed that the Gamper Cup will take place at Spotify Camp Nou on August 10th. Despite recent uncertainties surrounding permits from the city of Barcelona, the club insists everything is proceeding as planned.
Licenses On Track, Conditions Apply
On Thursday, the Barcelona City Council’s Government Commission approved adjustments to the operating and construction licenses for Spotify Camp Nou. This is the first key step towards reopening the stadium to the public. The club expects to obtain the First Occupancy License by the end of July, which is essential for admitting spectators.
However, the city of Barcelona has made it clear that this permit will not be granted unless underground works and construction on the first and second stands are completed.
Reduced Capacity for Gamper Cup
While Barça initially hoped for a return in front of 60,000 fans, the reality will be different. For the Gamper Cup, the stadium capacity will be limited to 30,000 to 32,000 spectators, which is just over half of the completed stands. Fans will be seated in the Gol Sud and Tribuna sections on the first and second levels. Access will be granted from Arístides Maillol and Travessera de les Corts streets.
Conversely, the Gol Nord and Lateral zones will remain closed. This is due to ongoing work on access roads and the passage near Maternitat street, where the final phase of parking lot construction is underway. The club emphasizes that there are no reasons for further capacity reductions at this time.
Opponent Confirmed: Como
Barcelona will also officially confirm that their opponent for the Gamper Cup will be Como, the Italian club where former Blaugrana player Cesc Fàbregas currently plays. The official confirmation is expected next week, aligning with Hansi Flick’s squad’s return to training.
The Gamper Cup will also serve as a dress rehearsal before Barcelona’s first home La Liga match, scheduled for the weekend of September 13-14 against Valencia. Prior to that, Barça will play three away league matches.
