Hansi Flick’s first game at the helm brings energy, goals, and a full squad rotation.
FC Barcelona began their summer tour with a 3–1 win over Japanese side Vissel Kobe, marking a successful debut for new manager Hansi Flick. The German coach gave playing time to nearly the entire squad, changing the full starting XI at halftime in what turned out to be an entertaining and dynamic preseason clash.
First Half: Bright Start, Sloppy Finish
Barcelona came out with high intensity, especially through Lamine Yamal, who looked sharp and constantly tried to break through the Kobe defense with dribbles and quick combinations. Despite some promising build-up play, the final pass was often missing.
The first big chance came in the 13th minute when Yamal’s cross found Raphinha, whose header was aimed at Ferran Torres, but the ball landed straight in the keeper’s hands. Moments later, the Brazilian fired a long-range shot just wide.
Barcelona’s dominance paid off in the 33rd minute. After a corner from Fermín López, a scramble in the box led to Eric García bundling the ball into the net. Replays showed a possible handball, but with no VAR in place, the goal stood.
Vissel Kobe responded just before halftime. A misplaced pass by Pau Cubarsí led to a fast break. Although Joan García saved the initial shot, Taisei Miyashiro calmly slotted home the rebound, leveling the score at 1–1 before the break.
Second Half: Fresh Legs, Fresh Goals
Hansi Flick made a full lineup change for the second half, including debut appearances for Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji.
Barcelona dominated possession but initially struggled to create clear chances. In the 63rd minute, Dani Olmo missed narrowly from a great setup by Marc Casadó, and Rashford followed up with a low shot that was saved.
The breakthrough came in the 77th minute. Rashford slid the ball to Robert Lewandowski, who set up Bardghji for a tidy left-footed finish — putting Barça 2–1 ahead.
The final goal came from Pedro “Dro” Fernández, a La Masia product who had just come onto the pitch. The teenager met a low cross with a stunning first-time volley to seal a 3–1 win for Barcelona.
Match Summary
Barcelona’s performance showed promise, with Pedri, Yamal, and Bardghji standing out creatively. While there were moments of defensive uncertainty, the squad rotation allowed Flick to experiment with his options and give minutes to both stars and youth prospects.
