FC Barcelona has officially begun the process of granting its greatest legend the club’s highest honor. In a move that has thrilled the Culé community, president Joan Laporta confirmed the club is working to erect an official statue of Lionel Messi at the Spotify Camp Nou, placing him alongside the immortalized figures of Johan Cruyff and László Kubala.
The Ultimate Tribute: Messi Among the Giants
The announcement was made by Laporta during a book presentation on Thursday. He stated that the club’s leadership views this tribute as a matter of justice for their record-breaking star.
“The leadership has always felt that we must do even more for Messi,” Laporta declared. “He should have a statue at Camp Nou like Cruyff and Kubala. It is only fair.”
This marks the first concrete step in a grand homage to the player who defined an era at the club. The emotional weight of the decision is amplified by Messi’s recent spontaneous visit to the stadium’s construction site, a gesture that resonated deeply with fans worldwide.
Awaiting the Family’s Approval
While the wheels are in motion, Laporta revealed that one crucial step remains. The final design and project require the blessing of the Messi family.
“We are working on it,” Laporta explained. “Of course, the family must agree. When the design is ready, we will present it. As Culés, we would be immensely happy.”
This respectful approach underscores the club’s desire to make this tribute a collaborative and heartfelt celebration of Messi’s legacy.
“Messi Will Always Be Linked to Barça”
Beyond the statue, Laporta sent a clear message about the Argentine’s everlasting connection to FC Barcelona. He expressed confidence that Messi’s story with the club is far from over.
“I am sure that Messi will be linked to Barça,” Laporta stated. “When he finishes his career at Inter Miami, we will see what happens next. The doors are open for him.”
Reflecting on Messi’s recent visit to the construction site, the president added, “Camp Nou is his home. What he did was spontaneous, sympathetic, and full of barcelonismo.”
With relations between the two parties described as “cordial,” Barcelona is now focused on creating what Laporta calls “the most beautiful tribute in the world” for the man who took the club to unprecedented heights.
