FC Barcelona is closing in on a high-profile signing for the left wing. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester United for Marcus Rashford have reached an advanced stage, and the operation is now in its final phase.
After Nico Williams Rejection, Rashford Becomes the Priority
Following Nico Williams’ refusal to leave Athletic Club and the high asking price for Luis Díaz, Barcelona shifted its focus to Rashford. The English international has long been on the Catalan club’s radar.
Rashford was already interested in joining Barça back in January, and his loan spell at Aston Villa during the second half of last season reinforced his desire to leave Old Trafford.
The Deal: Loan With Option to Buy
Barcelona has submitted an official offer through intermediaries for a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the 2025/26 season. Manchester United has reportedly agreed to the framework in principle, although several details are still being finalized.
Journalists Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto confirmed that the offer was sent on Friday morning, and talks are currently focused on salary distribution and compensation terms in case the purchase option is not exercised.
Flick Approves, Rashford Accepts Wage Cut
New head coach Hansi Flick has reportedly approved the move and even held a personal conversation with Rashford. Barcelona is excited by Rashford’s versatility, finishing ability, and global marketing appeal.
Although the forward currently earns £325,000 per week at Manchester United, he is ready to take a significant pay cut to fulfill his dream of wearing the Blaugrana jersey.
Juventus Out of the Race
Despite Juventus expressing interest in recent days, Rashford remains committed to joining Barcelona. He made that intention clear as far back as January, when discussions between the parties first began.
According to Sky Sports, the two clubs now have a verbal agreement in place. The final step will be to complete the remaining contractual details, after which Rashford will undergo his medical examination and be officially announced as a new FC Barcelona player.
